VarroMed 5 mg/ml + 44 mg/ml
VarroMed - Bee Vital solution - 555 ml
VarroMed® is ready to use, simple and easy to apply to the hive without any preparation needed. We provide beekeepers with three or more options for when VarroMed® can be used to treat bee colonies, i.e., Spring + Late Summer/Autumn + Winter. This innovative product is supplied in a 555 ml bottle with a dropper and practical scale for easy use. VarroMed® is ready for immediate use and is composed of natural substances combined with two active ingredients - formic acid and oxalic acid. The product has no withdrawal period and is also suitable for organic beekeeping. VarroMed® is used to combat Varroa mites in colonies with and without brood in spring, late summer, autumn, and winter. The product is specially developed for easy and quick treatment of bees. VarroMed® is available in all EU countries without prescription.
Composition: 1 ml of the product contains: formic acid 5 mg, oxalic acid dihydrate 44 mg (equivalent to 31.42 mg of anhydrous oxalic acid);
Excipients: Ammonia caramel (E150d), Sucrose syrup, Propolis extract 20%, Star anise oil, Lemon oil, Citric acid monohydrate, Purified water.
Dosage form: suspension ready to pour in the hive, light brown to dark brown. Therapeutic indications: fighting Varroa (Varroa destructor) in colonies with and without brood.
Contraindications: do not use during honey flow
Dosage and administration: in-hive application. Apply VarroMed to bees in the frame spaces of the brood chamber. Ensure that treated bees have sufficient access to drinking water. Shake before use. The dose should be carefully adjusted according to colony size.
Determine the size of the colony and the number of bee-covered frame spaces to be treated, then select the required amount of product. The following dosing scheme should be used: 5,000 - 7,000 bees - 15 ml; 7,000 - 12,000 bees - 15 to 30 ml; 12,000 - 30,000 bees - 30 to 45 ml; over 30,000 bees - 45 ml. The product should be used primarily during periods of low bee flight activity (late afternoon, evening). To prevent overdosing individual bees with VarroMed, try to distribute the product evenly over the bees, especially in the winter cluster.
VarroMed should not be used during nectar flow periods or if the hive contains honey frames. Before use, warm the product to a temperature of 25°C to 35°C, then shake well. Before administration, it is recommended to remove burr comb between the top bars of the frames.
To determine the level of mite infestation in the hive, mite mortality must be monitored: mites should be monitored on the bottom board before the first treatment cycle and then up to 6 days after each treatment cycle. All colonies in the area should be treated simultaneously to minimize the risk of re-infestation by mites.
Overdose: After administration of a 10% solution of oxalic acid dihydrate in 50% sugar solution, permanent changes in the gastrointestinal tract and excretory organs were observed after 72 hours.
Administration of 20% oxalic acid in 50% sugar solution resulted in the death of more than 60% of bees.
In case of accidental overdose (e.g., after spilling a large amount of VarroMed into the hive), the best solution is to replace the hive box and clean the frames with water to remove all visible traces of the suspension. NOTE: VarroMed should be used as part of an integrated Varroa control program. Efficacy has been tested in hives with low to medium levels of mite infestation. When the product is packaged for sale, it is valid for up to 2 years. After first opening the inner package, the shelf life is 30 days.
