IzoVar – Universal Queen Bee Isolator

Do you want to protect your colonies from the Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) effectively while being gentle on the purity of honey, wax, and other bee products? IzoVar is a practical tool for beekeepers who prefer biotechnical methods and want to limit unnecessary use of chemical treatments. The isolator allows temporary interruption of brood rearing, creating ideal conditions for subsequent colony treatment.

The renowned expert Professor Krzysztof Olszewski participated in the product development. IzoVar is a response to current needs of modern beekeeping – from increasing mite resistance to certain treatments, through extended brood rearing periods due to climate change, to growing demands for lower residue content in honey and wax.

Why is Brood Interruption with IzoVar Effective?

The Varroa mite reproduces only in capped brood. Once the queen is restricted from laying for a certain period using the isolator, mites lose the opportunity for further reproduction and remain on adult bees. It is precisely in this phase that they are most susceptible to subsequent treatment, whether you use organic acids or commonly used veterinary preparations. Properly executed isolation significantly increases the effectiveness of varroa control and helps maintain the colony in good condition.

Thoughtful Design for Bees and Beekeepers

The IzoVar isolator is made of high-quality polypropylene (PP), which is food-safe, chemically stable, and well resistant to temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The isolator's dimensions provide the queen with sufficient space, which helps reduce the risk of supersedure and weakening of her condition. The construction also includes a removable internal insert that prevents unwanted comb building inside the isolator.

A great advantage of IzoVar is easy handling. The removable top cover allows releasing the queen without the need to unnecessarily dismantle the brood nest. The beekeeper thus saves time while disturbing the colony less. The isolator can be placed in the comb as needed – in the center or at the edge – and can remain in the colony long-term, so it is ready for spring, summer, autumn, and winter use.

Main Advantages for Your Beekeeping

Universal use: Thanks to direct mounting into the comb, it is suitable for various types of hive configurations and operational methods.

Year-round use: Suitable for spring colony work, summer and autumn health measures, and long-term winter queen isolation.

Easier queen replacement: The top opening facilitates insertion of an introduction cage or queen cell, so isolation can be practically combined with queen replacement.

Support for prevention of new threats: Winter queen isolation can also be a useful tool in preventing the spread of Tropilaelaps mites, whose development is also dependent on the presence of brood.
