Bee escape - 8 ways
Bee Escape 8-Way for Quick and Calm Honey Harvesting
Simplify your honey harvesting and save a lot of time and work. Large bee escape with 8 conical passages helps solve one of the least favorite activities during extraction – the lengthy brushing of bees from honey super frames. Instead of hours of work, you get supers ready for removal in no time.
How the Escape Works and When to Use It
The escape works as a one-way gate. It is inserted into the inner cover (or into an opening in the inner cover) between the honey super and brood chamber. Bees naturally descend down to the queen in the brood chamber, but due to the shape of the passages, they cannot return to the honey super. The result is a honey super with minimal bees that can be safely and quickly removed.
Main advantages for beekeepers:
-
Time and effort savings: Reduce or completely eliminate brushing frames with a bee brush or goose wing.
-
Calmer work in the apiary: Without unnecessary disturbance of the colony, honey harvesting proceeds much more calmly and with less risk of stings.
-
Lower risk of robbing: Quick removal of nearly empty honey supers shortens the time the hive is open, which is important especially during robbing periods.
Quality Construction and High Efficiency
This popular type of escape is supplied to us by the German company Heinrich Holtermann. Compared to smaller variants, the design with 8 exits is significantly more efficient – bees leave the honey super faster and more evenly. In practice, the escape is most often installed in the evening and by morning the honey supers are almost without bees, ready for immediate extraction.
