Bee escape - 16 ways
Large Bee Escape – 16 Holes for Quick Honey Super Clearing
Make your honey harvest simpler, calmer and gentler on the bees. The large bee escape with 16 holes is a proven tool for quick honey super clearing without brushing frames. Thanks to its larger diameter and high throughput, it works noticeably faster than standard small escapes.
How the Escape Works and How It Helps
Brushing frames is time-consuming and often unnecessarily disturbs the colony – it can also attract robber bees and increase the risk of stings. With an escape, this step is eliminated.
The escape works as a one-way "valve" (maze). It is mounted in an escape board or inner cover, which you place between the brood chamber and honey super. Bees gradually descend through the holes down to the brood chamber to the queen, but due to the maze construction, they cannot return to the honey super. The honey super thus remains almost bee-free and ready for removal.
Why Beekeepers Use It
Speed and efficiency: Sixteen holes ensure high throughput, so clearing proceeds quickly. The escape usually needs to be inserted in the evening and by morning the honey super is significantly cleared.
Calmer work in the apiary: You remove supers with minimal bees, so there is less colony disturbance and honey harvest proceeds peacefully.
Cleaner honey and less mess: Without brushing, no wax dust or dirt from the brush gets into the honey.
Tips for Proper Use
For reliable function, the honey super must be without brood and without the queen. If the queen or brood were present in the honey super, bees would tend to stay above and would not clear the super. Insert the escape ideally 12–24 hours before extracting.
