Top feeder 6 l
Plastic Ceiling Feeder 6 l for Convenient and Safe Bee Feeding
Do you need to feed your colonies quickly, clearly and without unnecessary disturbance to the hive? The 6-liter ceiling plastic feeder from German supplier Holtermann is a practical choice for administering sugar syrup and invert sugar. The well-thought-out design minimizes losses, saves time and above all helps protect bees when collecting feed.

Benefits for Beekeepers and Bee Protection
The feeder is designed for everyday beekeeping practice. Thanks to the central "mushroom" and protective conical plexiglass dish, bees have safe access to feed while significantly reducing the risk of drowning. The transparent central cone functions as a reliable barrier that guides bees to the feed in a controlled manner.
The plastic cover is made of sufficiently heavy material, so it usually does not need to be weighted down. The feeder body is made of thick, flexible PVC that withstands normal handling well and does not crack. A great advantage is the transparent lid – you can check the feed status at any time without opening and without unnecessary disturbance to the colony. The smooth walls also facilitate washing and overall maintenance after feeding.
Use in Hives and Feeding Tips
The feeder is universal for most common Langstroth hives (e.g. 39 × 24, Optimal, B10, E10, etc.) with a minimum internal super dimension of 392 × 332 mm. It is normally placed on the hive in an empty super under the roof – ideally on a plywood or masonite inner cover (3–4 mm) with a central opening of approximately 50–100 mm.
It is suitable for both spring and summer stimulative feeding (e.g. 1:1 syrup) and for main winter stores supplementation (e.g. 3:2 syrup). The 6-liter volume allows you to provide a larger dose at once, so you don't have to visit the apiary as often.
In addition to liquid feed, the feeder can also be used for thicker substances, such as fondant. In that case, simply remove the transparent conical cover so the bees can access the entire feeder space.
Tip against robbing: Stimulative feeding and feeding (especially for nucs) is safer to perform in the evening. The bees will collect the syrup by morning and during the day the risk of robbing is reduced, which is promoted by the smell and increased moisture ventilated from the syrup. For nucs, it is proven to place the feeder directly above the brood frames, leave only the super entrance opposite the brood open and close the bottom entrance.
