Swarm Lure Spray – Effective Aid for Catching Honey Bee Swarms

The swarming season is one of the busiest times in the beekeeping year. This 200 ml swarm lure spray is a practical tool that makes it easier to attract swarms into a prepared swarm trap, empty hive, or other suitable bait hive. The product contains synthetic pheromone components that mimic the natural scent signals of bees, increasing the likelihood that a swarm will choose the location you have designated for settlement.

Why keep swarm lure on hand?

The main advantage is faster and easier swarm catching. Instead of laboriously searching for swarms in treetops or hard-to-reach places, you can direct the bees into pre-prepared swarm traps or hives. The spray is easy to apply, leaves no unnecessary mess, and allows precise application to the desired areas. It is suitable for both beginner beekeepers and experienced apiarists managing a larger number of colonies.

Practical use

For best results, place a swarm trap, an old box, or an empty hive in a clearly visible and calm location, ideally where swarms in your area typically settle. In practice, it has proven effective to set up 3 to 5 bait hives approximately 5–10 meters from the apiary and about 2 meters above the ground. Spray the swarm lure particularly around the entrance, on the landing board, and inside the entrance area of the trap.

The scent effect lasts approximately 5 days, though this always depends on the current weather conditions. Wind and especially rain can reduce the intensity of the scent trail, so it is advisable to reapply after rainfall. The success rate of swarm catching can be further improved by placing old drawn comb inside the trap. According to beekeepers' experience, the combination of drawn comb and swarm lure can significantly increase the chance that a swarm will settle in the prepared swarm trap.
