That's why it's so important that each stage of her life, from the queen cell to the establishment of a new colony, is supervised by a beekeeper with special care and attention. The MINI API hive made of expanded polypropylene is a perfect solution for raising queen bees with a small number of bees until the queen is inseminated. EPP, despite its plasticity allowing creation of virtually any shape, shows very high resistance to physical and chemical factors. Regardless of any impact, deformation or mechanical damage, the device provides high durability, thus guaranteeing a longer lifespan. Thanks to excellent thermal properties, it's possible to overwinter smaller colonies with spare queens in it, ensuring long-term maintenance of the required temperature. EPP material is also stable in a wide temperature range (-40°C to +60°C), so its properties are not dependent on outdoor weather conditions. It also provides additional protection for the colony in case of fire. Moreover, when burning EPP material, no toxic gases are produced, which is another plus for environmental protection. Another advantage of a hive made of expanded polypropylene is its low water absorption. This is a key context in maintaining proper apiary hygiene. Thanks to the closed cells of the building material, it is completely waterproof. Following this, we encounter another important property of EPP. Its use in hive production minimizes the susceptibility of the bee nest to fungi or mold formation. Similarly, the acoustic properties of the EPP hive are extremely important for bees, as they are particularly sensitive to noise. Loud sound can disturb the colony, resulting in unnecessary consumption of its energy.
