It is primarily intended for protection and disinfection of stored combs and frames, when there is a risk of damage by pests or deterioration during long-term storage. How to Use the Evaporator When Storing Combs
To protect combs in a stack of supers (chimney), proceed as follows:
- Stack the supers with combs on top of each other and create a space that is as sealed as possible (closed mesh, solid bottom, limited leaks).
- For better vapor passage, leave more space between combs – for example, 9 frames in a 10-frame super.
- Fill the reservoir with the chosen substance for comb protection (e.g., acetic acid) and let it absorb into the absorption insert.
- Place the evaporator in the upper part of the super stack – vapors are heavier than air and gradually descend downward.
- For rapid saturation of the space, initially set the control to maximum.
- Monitor evaporation continuously. When the temperature permanently drops below approximately 10 °C, pest activity significantly weakens and treatment can usually be terminated.
