Beekeeping Wire Stainless Steel 1000 g

Stainless steel beekeeping wire with a diameter of 0.4 mm in a 1000 g package represents essential equipment for firm and reliable wiring of frames of all common frame sizes. The shiny, soft yet sufficiently strong wire offers an ideal combination of flexibility and stability. It is easy to tension, holds its shape well, and during honey extraction provides maximum support to the wax foundation and combs loaded with honey. Thanks to its high resistance to breaking, working with it is quick and without unnecessary complications. It is supplied on a practical plastic spool for convenient unwinding.

Main Benefits for Beekeepers

A great advantage of this stainless steel wire is its long lifespan and resistance to corrosion. Grade 304 stainless steel does not rust and easily withstands acids contained in honey. It also tolerates the effects of formic acid and oxalic acid used in treating bee colonies against the varroa mite (Varroa destructor).

When renewing old comb, frames can be safely boiled in hot water or processed in a steam wax melter without the need to cut out the wires. After cleaning, they can simply be re-tensioned using tensioning pliers – usually it is sufficient to crimp a short section approximately 2–3 cm long. The strength of the material also minimizes the risk of breaking during tensioning and when extracting heavy combs. If a loop forms during work, the wire does not break and can be easily straightened.

How to Properly Wire Frames

Wiring can be done horizontally or vertically depending on the frame type (Langstroth, Optimal, 39 × 24, and others). First, firmly nail or staple the frames together. Drill holes approximately 3 mm in diameter in the side bars, through which the wire is then threaded. For higher resistance to cutting into the wood, stainless steel eyelets can be used, although their use is not essential.

Secure the beginning of the wire by wrapping it around a small nail (e.g., 10 × 1.4 mm) partially driven into the side bar. After threading through all holes, slightly bend the frame inward to create the necessary tension. Wrap the end of the wire around the nail again (approximately three times) and drive the nail below the wood level so it does not interfere when cleaning frames of propolis and wax. After releasing the side bars, the wire remains firmly tensioned.

Then embed the foundation into the prepared frame using an embedding transformer (recommended power minimum 100 W, at 12 V current at least 8 A) or mechanically using a heated spur embedder.
