The metal lid for Langstroth with a height of 5 cm is designed not only for Langstroth hives from our range. On the hive box, it creates an overhang of approximately 1 cm from the hive wall, which is a crucial element for proper water drainage, preventing water from leaking into the joints of the hive bodies. Metal lids for Langstroth are manufactured according to production specifications from galvanized sheet metal (FeZn) or titanium-zinc sheet metal (TiZn). Both these types of sheet metal are commonly used in tinsmithing for outdoor elements, which guarantees their high durability.

Recommendations for Maximum Longevity and Bee Comfort

We recommend choosing some surface treatment for the metal, such as protective coating or additional roofing, otherwise there is a risk of corrosion in the long term. Moreover, with coating you can aesthetically unify the hives. For proper microclimate, crown board foil and some insulation, such as felt or polystyrene, are placed between the metal lid and the hive box. This is especially important in summer, so that the hives do not overheat under the heated metal, and in winter, conversely, so that precious heat does not escape.

Note: Lids are supplied without insulation.
