Proper Installation and Practical Tips

For the excluder to function reliably and not unnecessarily burden the colony, proper placement is important. It is not recommended to place the queen excluder directly on the top bars of the frames. Ideally, insert it into an excluder rim (or work with bee space) so that bees have enough space to move under the excluder. From practice, orientation is also crucial: always run the wires of the metal excluder parallel to the top bars of the frames below it. Bees then more easily pass from the frame spaces directly into the excluder openings.
