Half-depth Dadant Blatt polystyrene super - unpainted
Dadant Blatt 1/2 Super - Unpainted
Frame dimensions 470 x 435 x 145 mm. Half-depth super for polystyrene 10-frame Dadant Blatt hive. Used as a super where honey frames are placed. It can also be placed above the crown board (under the roof) to create additional space for feeding or warming the colony.
The Dadant Blatt ½ super is called a half super because it is half the height of a full-depth super. It is used as a honey super. During honey flow in the apiary and in storage, multiple supers can be easily stacked on top of each other (in such cases, even several dozen half supers can be stacked).
Besides its basic extension function, the Dadant half super is also used to create additional space, for example:
- under nucleus colonies during wintering to increase the hive volume and create an additional air cushion.
- when feeding bees through the crown board so that a bucket, jar, or other container with feed can fit under the roof.
- between the crown board and roof when insulating the brood nest from above.
- under the divider board during honey collection.
To separate the brood chamber from the super, we recommend using a queen excluder designed for the Dadant Blatt hive (can be purchased separately). The holes in the excluder are large enough for worker bees to pass through, while the queen, being larger, remains in the lower part of the super and won't lay eggs in the honey frames.
The super has 2 ventilation holes. You can adjust them using plugs and a ventilation screen insert.
The Dadant half super made of foam polystyrene is lightweight, but once filled with honeycomb frames, its weight increases. For easier carrying, special recesses have been created in the outer walls that serve as handles.
Safety was also considered - the ½ super contains no protruding or sharp elements.
For hygiene maintenance, the ½ super can be disinfected with a sodium hydroxide solution.
The design of our hives has been perfected based on feedback from years of use. As a result, they provide the best comfort in the apiary and optimal conditions for bees.
For the super, we also recommend queen excluders and frames, which are almost indispensable, and a beekeeper's brush made of quality materials.
