Thorough insulation of the hive cover is not just a matter of temperature, but primarily of the colony's energy management. In winter, insulation helps minimize heat loss, thereby saving the bees' energy necessary for survival. This significantly reduces the consumption of winter honey stores, which has a direct positive impact on the colony's condition during spring development and the beginning of brood rearing. In summer, conversely, the insulation pad protects the hive from overheating by the sun, thereby saving the bees' strength that would otherwise have to be expended on demanding ventilation and cooling of the hive.

The insulation pad is made from recycled cotton fiber, which offers excellent thermal insulation properties. The insulation pad is placed between the top bars of the frames and the hive roof. For maximum lifespan of the insulation pad, we recommend underlaying it with crown board film. The film prevents bees from chewing the material, getting tangled in the fibers or propolizing it. This system ensures not only thermal comfort, but also high hygienic standards.
