Double-Sided Rubber Spoon for Royal Jelly Collection

A practical tool for beekeepers who engage in royal jelly collection and queen rearing. The tool consists of a solid wooden handle and two rubber scrapers on both ends. The tips are made of high-quality rubber – thanks to this, they are sufficiently firm for reliable collection, yet flexible and gentle on the wax comb and plastic queen cell cups.

Higher Yield and Clean Collection Without Unnecessary Losses

When harvesting royal jelly, precision and cleanliness of work are crucial. The rubber scraper adapts well to the shape of the cup, adheres to the walls, and allows the jelly to be wiped out almost completely. This minimizes waste and increases the overall yield from each cup and queen cell.

Use in Beekeeping Practice and Recommended Procedure

The double-sided design speeds up work – simply turn the spoon over and continue collecting without searching for another tool. It is suitable for collection from both natural (swarm) queen cells and artificial plastic queen cell cups used in queen rearing.

In the standard rearing procedure, a one-day-old larva is grafted into a breeding frame (approximately 30–60 cups) onto a drop of water or diluted royal jelly. The frame is placed in a queenless colony, or in a colony with a queen in such a way as to create a sense of queenlessness (e.g., in a honey super above a divider with transferred brood). Nurse bees then intensively provision the larvae with royal jelly. Collection must be performed just before capping of the queen cells (usually by the 9th day from egg laying). First, the larva is carefully removed with a grafting tool, and then the jelly is wiped from the cup with the rubber scraper. The tool also proves useful when collecting royal jelly from swarm queen cells, for example, to create a starter supply for further grafting.
