Wax Purity and Health Safety

Every detail matters with foundation sheets – especially the purity of the raw material. The foundation is manufactured using traditional, proven methods in which the wax is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to ensure microbial safety and lower risk of introducing unwanted disease pathogens into the colony.

Natural Appearance of Foundation: Wax Bloom

During longer storage, especially in cold conditions, a lighter coating (patina) may appear on the surface of the foundation sheets, known as wax bloom. This is not mold or a defect – it is a natural manifestation of genuine beeswax. It has no effect on the quality or functionality of the foundation and does not reduce the bees' willingness to build. If the patina bothers you aesthetically, you can easily remove it with warm air (e.g., a hair dryer) or brief exposure to sunlight.

Tip for Faster Comb Building

Beekeepers recommend placing the foundation sheet in the frame so that it is as close as possible to the top bar. Bees generally find it easier to complete the bottom gap than the top one, which promotes even comb building. Side gaps should be kept approximately equal.
