Refractometer for alcohol measurement Catania ATC with measurement range 0 to 25% Vol. it is especially suitable for drinks with a lower alcohol content, e.g. mead, wine or beer.

KING Refractometer 0–25% VOL: Keep Your Mead and Fermentation Under Control

Details matter when producing homemade mead, beer, or fruit fermentations. The KING refractometer is appreciated by beekeepers and producers who want to monitor fermentation from start to finish. In moments, you can measure sugar content and get a quick alcohol estimate – all from a small sample amount, without unnecessary waste of raw materials.

More Durable Glass for Long Service Life

With cheaper refractometers, wear of the cover plate often shows quickly, which impairs scale readability and working comfort. KING is equipped with a quality PMMA cover glass compared to standard models, which better resists scratching and also withstands more demanding conditions when working with fermentation. The result? The instrument lasts longer "like new" and readings remain clear.

Design Created for Beekeeping Practice

The calibration screw is located on the bottom side of the instrument. In practice, this means less risk of accidentally disturbing calibration during normal handling. It also reduces the possibility of water ingress during cleaning, which is a common cause of problems with older or less thoughtfully designed refractometers.

Two Scales for Quick and Clear Reading

The KING refractometer offers dual scales, giving you constant overview of what's happening in your solution:

1. Brix Scale (0–40%): suitable for measuring sugar content in must, wort, fruit juices, or other beverages. As a guide, 1°Bx corresponds to 1g of sugar in 100g of solution.

2. VOL Scale (0–25%): serves for quick estimation of potential alcohol content in mead or fermentation.

Reliable Results Even with Temperature Changes

Thanks to automatic temperature compensation (ATC), measurement is stable even with normal temperature fluctuations – whether you're working in a cellar, honey house, or warmer room. Accuracy of ±0.2% gives you confidence when deciding when to rack, complete fermentation, or adjust production process.

Technical Parameters

Measurement Accuracy ± 0.2%
Minimum Scale Division 0.2%
Temperature Compensation (ATC) Yes (automatic)
Glass Material PMMA (increased durability)
Calibration Screw Location Bottom (protection from water and accidental adjustment)
Use Mead, fermentation, fruit juices, beer, milk beverages

Important Maintenance Notice

The refractometer is a precise optical instrument, so it deserves gentle handling. After each measurement, rinse the prism with lukewarm water, gently wipe and dry with a soft cloth. Do not rinse the instrument under running water and do not immerse it – water could get into the optical part. The refractometer is usually calibrated from the factory. Calibration liquid is not included in the package, but for normal use you typically don't need it right from the start.

METHOD OF USE

  1. Preparation: Point the front end of the refractometer toward bright light and turn the eyepiece focusing ring until the scale is clearly visible.

  2. Measurement: Open the cover plate and clean the measuring surface with a piece of soft cotton flannel. Drop 1–2 drops of the measured solution. Close the cover plate and gently press it, then read on the appropriate scale the boundary between light and shadow. The reading is the numerical value of the measured liquid.

  3. After measurement: Clean the measuring surface and cover plate with damp gauze and carefully store the instrument.

WARNINGS AND MAINTENANCE

  1. Setting for zero liquid and sample should be performed at the same temperature. If temperature changes significantly, the zero point should be set once every 30 minutes.

  2. After use, do not wash the instrument with water to prevent water from getting inside the instrument.

  3. This is a precise optical instrument. Handle it gently and take good care of it. Do not touch the optical surface or scratch it. Store it in a dry, clean, and non-corrosive environment to prevent surface mold and fogging. During transport, avoid strong impacts.

  4. If consumers use the instrument according to the stated method of use, optical performance should not change.

TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION

Reference temperature is 20°C. During operation, temperature should be adjusted according to the correction table.

Models marked ATC are equipped with automatic temperature compensation. They have an additional function that allows the user to focus on measurement without worrying about temperature. Compensation range is 0~30°C.
