A solid and reliable bottom board is an essential component of every Langstroth-style hive. This wooden stacked bottom board is designed for the Čechoslovák hive with a frame size of 37 × 30 cm, and thanks to its stable construction, it is particularly suited for permanent apiary locations. It provides the bee colony with optimal conditions and makes it easier for the beekeeper to carry out regular inspections, treatments, and hive maintenance.

The bottom board construction is set on two sturdy wooden legs, which create sufficient space beneath the hive for convenient insertion of a debris monitoring tray. This design also facilitates aerosol treatment of the bee colony and the application of medicinal preparations, such as Formidol evaporation strips.

The debris monitoring tray allows for regular observation of the natural mite drop of Varroa destructor. This enables the beekeeper to promptly assess the level of colony infestation and choose an appropriate treatment method. The lower part of the bottom board is made from high-quality spruce tongue-and-groove boards, which ensure durability, long service life, and good thermal insulation properties.

Practical Tip from Beekeeping Practice

We recommend securing the entrance reducer strip with one or two frame spacers. Simply tap the spacer in lightly so that the entrance reducer holds firmly and does not fall out during routine handling. This simple modification proves especially useful when winterizing the colony or when narrowing the entrance as protection against robbing.
