Making candles from beeswax (foundation sheets)
Beeswax foundation sheets must be slightly warmed before rolling. In summer, sunlight is sufficient; in winter,
use a mildly heated radiator or a hairdryer. The correct temperature for foundation sheets is one
where the wax no longer breaks but isn't yet melting. Then cut a rectangle
or trapezoid from the sheets, insert the wick, press it firmly into the edge and begin
rolling the candle. The shape of the trapezoid will determine the different thickness and height
of your candles.
Slowly roll the wax foundation sheet so that each layer adheres well to the next. During the first few turns, the foundation sheet may crack slightly.
Choose the wick thickness according to the final thickness of the candle. If the wick is too thin, the candle will burn poorly.
If you want to ensure that the wick will burn properly, you can coat it with wax beforehand.
