A pollen trap is among the practical tools for beekeepers who want to collect flower (corbicular) pollen – a natural source of proteins, vitamins and enzymes. It serves for gentle separation of pollen pellets from bees returning from foraging back to the hive.
The pollen trap is among the practical tools for beekeepers who want to collect flower (bee) pollen – a natural source of proteins, vitamins and enzymes. It serves for gentle separation of pollen pellets from bees returning from foraging back to the hive.
The principle is simple and proven: bees passing through the entrance pass through the grid openings. These are designed to allow bees safe passage, but at the same time scrape off the pollen pellets from the pollen baskets on their hind legs upon entry. The pellets then fall into a prepared drawer, from where they can be conveniently removed.

The trap enables efficient and hygienic pollen collection without unnecessary interference with the colony's operation. For beekeepers, it is a simple way to expand their offering with a sought-after bee product. From the customers' perspective, bee pollen is a sought-after natural "superfood" – valued especially for its antioxidant content (e.g. flavonoids) and its use as part of a varied diet.
The trap is made of sturdy plastic that withstands outdoor conditions and regular stress during the season well. The washable material facilitates maintenance and helps maintain the necessary hygiene standard when collecting a product intended for consumption.
