Crimson Clover seeds - 0.5 kg
Crimson Clover – Bee Seeds 0.5 kg
Do you want a reliable source of nectar and pollen for your bee colonies while also improving the soil at your apiary site? Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum), often also called incarnate clover, is among the proven nectar-producing crops suitable for beekeeping plantings. The 0.5 kg package is ready for direct sowing and is perfect for establishing nectar strips, bio-strips, and smaller areas near the apiary.
Strong Nectar and Pollen Flow
Crimson clover attracts bees with its high nectar sugar content, and the stand is intensively visited during flowering. The daily collection pattern is also typical: bees collect nectar mainly in the morning, while pollen collection often predominates in the afternoon. This allows you to easily observe increased flight activity at the hive entrances and regular foraging returns.
From a nectar production perspective, it's interesting that the nectary of one flower produces approximately 0.18 mg of nectar with about 43% sugar content in 24 hours. The total sugar value reaches about 0.8 mg per flower per day, making it an energetically very beneficial forage. Pollen pellets have a typically pinkish shade. Crimson clover usually doesn't become a source of monofloral honey, but significantly enriches floral blends and helps strengthen colonies before the main flow and during periods when forage needs supplementation.
Benefits for Bees and Soil
Crimson clover isn't just "feed" for bees – in the stand it also functions as quality green manure and naturally improves soil conditions through nitrogen fixation. It's also true that pollination by bees has a direct impact on seed formation: if approximately 2–4 bee colonies are placed near a flowering stand, seed yield can increase by about 35–40%. By sowing, you support not only your bee colonies but also the overall stability of the local ecosystem.
Sowing and Cultivation
For best results, follow the proper sowing timing. The second half of August is ideal – plants establish good roots before winter, overwinter safely, and bloom the following year. Maturation usually occurs around July 10th.
Recommended seeding rate:
For green feed or green manure in pure culture, 150–250 g per 100 m² is commonly sown. For beekeeping use (nectar strips), a seeding rate of 160–180 g per 100 m² has proven effective. Place seeds at a depth of 1–2 cm.
