Hive Paint Balakryl Dixol: Safe and Durable Protection for Your Hives
Do you want to reliably protect your hives from weather while ensuring that the coating does not endanger the bee colony after drying? Water-thinnable thin-layer stain Balakryl Dixol is a practical choice for routine maintenance of hives and other wooden parts of the apiary. It dries quickly, is easy to work with, and thanks to EN 71 certification (safety of toys and children's furniture), it is suitable after curing even where health safety is important.

What You'll Appreciate When Painting Hives
The stain penetrates into the wood and creates protection that helps limit moisture penetration while allowing the wood to "breathe." This reduces the risk of warping and cracking, which is important for hives not only for the longevity of supers but also for maintaining a stable microclimate in the hive. The surface remains in a matte, natural decorative appearance. Another advantage is easy renovation – the coating typically does not peel, so when renewing, it is usually sufficient to clean the hives and recoat without time-consuming sanding.
Coating Lifespan in Practice
With proper application procedure, the realistic lifespan in our conditions is approximately 3 years. Specific durability is affected by apiary location, cardinal direction orientation, sunlight intensity, rain, and overall weather exposure. For hives in open and more stressed locations, regular coating inspection and timely maintenance are worthwhile.
Use Beyond the Apiary
Balakryl Dixol can be used for new and renovation coatings of hardwood and softwood in exterior and interior applications. Besides hives, it is suitable for fences, gables, doors, soffits, garden furniture, pergolas, wooden cladding, log cabins, cottages, or other wooden structures on the property.
Simple Application Without Thinners
Before use, thoroughly mix the stain. Apply it undiluted to a clean and prepared substrate – the wood should be dry, sanded, and free of wax, grease, and resin residues. For new wood, 2–3 coats are usually recommended at 1–2 hour intervals; for renovation, 1–2 coats are typically sufficient. For outdoor surfaces with higher stress, it is advisable to first use fungicidal BALAKRYL WOOD IMPREGNATION. Between coats, you can lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper for better adhesion. The temperature of the substrate and surroundings should not drop below 10°C. A great advantage is cleanup after work – brushes and rollers just need to be washed with water immediately after painting.
